Jenna-Louise Coleman is
an English actress born and raised in Blackpool, Lancashire. She
developed an early passion for the performing arts, landing her first
professional stage role at age ten in a production of Summer Holiday.
Throughout her school years, she remained deeply involved in the
theatre, performing at the Edinburgh Festival with the company In Yer
Space and winning a critical award for her performance. This early
success solidified her decision to bypass formal drama school
enrolment when professional screen opportunities immediately knocked
on her door.
She achieved widespread recognition across the United Kingdom when she
was cast as Jasmine Thomas in the long-running ITV soap opera
Emmerdale, a role that earned her multiple award nominations. However,
it was her high-profile casting as Clara Oswald, the trusted companion
to the Time Lord in the iconic BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who,
that launched her onto the international stage and made her a
household name globally. Following this massive milestone, she pivoted
into period drama by taking on the titular leading role of Queen
Victoria in the acclaimed series Victoria.
Coleman’s versatile career has continuously spanned psychological
thrillers, streaming hits, and prestigious theatre. She has led major
projects including the crime dramas The Cry, The Serpent, and the
thriller The Jetty, for which she also served as an executive
producer. Additionally, she made her West End stage debut in a revival
of Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons and portrayed Johanna
Constantine in Netflix's hit fantasy series The Sandman. Expanding her
reach into political comedy-drama, she stars as the Deputy Chief of
Staff in the television series Number 10. |
