Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva, known professionally as Nina Dobrev, is a Canadian actress born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She relocated to Toronto with her family at a young age, where she raised and discovered her passion for the performing arts. As a child, she engaged in ballet, jazz, and rhythmic gymnastics, competing internationally for Canada. She attended the Armstrong Acting Studios to refine her craft and briefly studied sociology at Ryerson University before withdrawing to fully commit to her burgeoning acting career.

Dobrev secured her first major breakthrough on the teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation, portraying teenage mother Mia Jones. Her career ascended to international heights when she landed the dual leading roles of Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in the supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries. Her portrayal of two radically different characters won global praise, establishing her as a household name and earning her multiple Teen Choice and People's Choice Awards over her six-season run on the hit television network show.

Following her massive television success, Dobrev successfully transitioned into mainstream Hollywood cinema and independent features. She showcased her comedic and dramatic range in major studio releases like the action film XXX: Return of Xander Cage, the psychological horror Flatliners, and the romantic comedy Love Hard. More recently, she expanded her filmography into action thrillers, securing starring roles in The Bricklayer and Reunion, while continuing to develop creative ventures behind the scenes as a producer.
